You would figure that Disney would have learned its lesson that taking left-wing stands in the culture wars will cost the company dearly. Indeed, after Disney opposed a Florida law that prevents schools from indoctrinating students as young as five in the radical LGBT agenda and otherwise supporting such agenda, the company’s stock lost $50 billion in value, its public reputation ranking among the top 100 most visible companies in the United States plummeted from 37th place to 65th place, it was stripped of its special taxing district (which had saved Disney billions of dollars over the years) in the greater Orlando area by the Florida legislature, and international petition campaigns against Disney garnered hundreds of thousands of signatures.
But, alas, Disney adamantly refuses to learn this lesson and continues to take radical stands in the culture wars. For example, in its latest animated film geared toward children, Lightyear, Disney intentionally inserted a scene where a homosexual female lead-character kisses her same-sex spouse. The movie ended up flopping at the box office and was banned in over a dozen countries.
And now, after the recent Supreme Court decision (Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization) that ruled that abortion is not a constitutional right, Disney has agreed to pay for the abortion-related travel expenses of employees that live in states where abortion will become illegal or severely restricted. In a memo to employees obtained by CNBC, Disney stated:
“We recognize the impact that today’s Supreme Court ruling could have on many Americans and understand that some of you may have concerns about what that might mean for you and your families, as medical and family planning decisions are deeply personal. Please know that our company remains committed to removing barriers and providing comprehensive access to quality and affordable care for all of our employees, cast members and their families, including family planning and reproductive care, no matter where they live. In fact, we have processes in place so that an employee who may be unable to access care in one location has affordable coverage for receiving similar levels of care in another location. This travel benefit covers medical situations related to cancer treatments, transplants, rare disease treatment and family planning (including pregnancy-related decisions).”
For Disney, it will spare no expense to help its employees circumvent the Supreme Court’s decision. Significantly, such help could end up being illegal in some states that end up banning abortion and forbidding anyone from assisting in procuring an abortion for their residents. It will be interesting to see if Disney will defy state law in this case.
So there you have it. Once again woke Disney enters the culture wars by agreeing to pay for the abortion-related travel expenses of its employees in an effort, which soon could become illegal in some states, to circumvent the recent Supreme Court ruling declaring that abortion is not a constitutional right. It seems there is nothing Disney won’t do to support the left-wing agenda. Let’s hope that Disney’s stock price continues to tumble until the company returns to the family-friendly values of its founder.
