On July 29, President Xiomara Castro of Honduras vetoed an “integral education” law that would have introduced gender ideology into schools, challenging the notion that biological sex is significant. The victory for parents in Honduras was achieved with the help and encouragement of the organization For Our Children, which organized protests involving 50,000 parents across the country.

Catholic bishops, priests, religious leaders, and evangelical pastors also voiced their support for the protests, distinguishing the Honduran situation from others where religious leaders have remained silent when pro-family movements have sought their assistance.

Despite her lack of pro-life views, President Castro recognized the political pressure exerted by the massive crowds and decided to stand with parents. This move likely did not please the Biden administration, as U.S. foreign aid to Honduras and other countries is often used to promote sexual liberation, abortion, and gender theory. Vice President Kamala Harris, known for her support of abortion rights and the Gender Agenda, even attended Castro’s inauguration in January 2022.

Castro’s veto was surprising because it meant going against her own ruling party, the majority of whom had initially voted in favor of the law when it passed the legislature. The law, formally known as the “Law of Integral Education for the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy,” aimed to indoctrinate children into believing that sex and gender are fluid, that they can engage in sexual activity whenever they desire, and that contraceptives and even abortion are essential components of their sexual and reproductive rights.

The law was marketed as a measure to protect Honduran girls from teenage pregnancy but was, in reality, a deliberate attempt to inject destructive gender ideology promoted by international organizations into schools and the minds of young children.

The international pro-life organization Population Research Institute (PRI) played a significant role in supporting the pro-life movement in Honduras. PRI has been working closely with key allies in the country for decades, empowering organizations and professionals to advocate for pro-life values and educating the next generation of leaders. The recent victory in Honduras demonstrates the effectiveness of these long-term efforts.

Looking ahead, PRI plans to replicate the successful Honduran model in other countries within the region and worldwide, as the fight against the international machinery of gender indoctrination continues.
