As we all know, the woke Disney corporation, which has a large presence in central Florida, vehemently opposes a recently enacted Florida law that prohibits the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity to children in kindergarten through third grade or in “a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.” Disney really thinks the state should allow the grooming of students as young as five in radical LGBT ideology. As a result of its stance, Disney has committed itself to doing all it can to repeal the law and to stop similar legislative efforts around the country.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, however, is a fighter and is not going to back down to Disney’s bullying; indeed, he is going to go on the offensive against Disney. So what is DeSantis proposing to do? To repeal the special status given to Disney over 50 years ago that allows it to run its central Florida properties without government interference. In essence, under the special status granted to Disney in 1967, it is able to operate as its own country.

As reported by Fox News, at a press conference today DeSantis announced that he is expanding the scope of the upcoming special Florida legislative session to consider whether special improvement districts like the one created for Disney should be dismantled so the areas in question could be governed by the municipalities in which they are located. DeSantis stated:

“I am announcing today that we are expanding the call of what they are going to be considering. Yes, they will be considering the congressional map but they also will be considering termination of all special districts that were enacted in Florida prior to 1968 and that includes the [Disney] Reedy Creek Improvement District.”

DeSantis said first and foremost he is against powerful corporations such as Disney using their might to obtain special privileges in Florida law. He declared:

“What I would say as a matter of first principle is I don’t support special privileges in law just because a company is powerful and they’ve been able to wield a lot of power. I think what has happened is there’s a lot of these special privileges that are not justifiable, but because Disney had held so much sway, they were able to sustain a lot of special treatment over the years.”

Significantly, DeSantis has solid support in the legislature to repeal the special privileges granted Disney. State Representative Spencer Roach, who has been spearheading the repeal in the Florida House, tweeted on March 30:

“Yesterday was the 2nd meeting in a week w/fellow legislators to discuss a repeal of the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act, which allows Disney to act as its own government. If Disney wants to embrace woke ideology, it seems fitting that they should be regulated by Orange County.”

Let’s hope that in the special legislative session, which lasts from today through Friday, the Florida House and Senate will do the right thing and strip Disney of its special privileges. Doing so would send a clear message to woke corporate America: dare to support indoctrinating our children as young as five in the radical LGBT agenda and you will pay a steep price; the people will not tolerate you corrupting our children.
