One hundred years from now people will look back at 2022 and laugh out loud. They will say: “Did they really believe back then that a biological man could really become a woman?” They will cite with incredulity what Matt Walsh wrote in his 2020 book Church of Cowards:
“But as the irrational, anti-scientific, and superstitious belief in ‘transgenderism’ was introduced into the cultural bloodstream by academia and Hollywood, individual Americans, feeling the increasing peer pressure, quickly forsook their knowledge of basic human biology and adopted progressive gender theory wholesale. Now, roughly half of all Americans believe that a man can be a woman even if he was born with a penis.”
Since the beginning of time people have been free to personally believe whatever they want, and people have believed all sorts of unrealities. Some have falsely believed they were Jesus Christ. Some have falsely believed that they were the President of the United States or a famous historical figure like Napoleon or Washington. Some have falsely believed they were a walrus. And some have falsely believed they were the opposite sex. But what changed in the first half of the 21st century is that many in the West began to actually affirm these people in their unreal ideas.
Indeed, to actually believe that a biological male can literally “become” a female goes against science, reason, common sense, and thousands of years of human experience, not to mention the tenets of almost all religions in the world. Every single cell of a biological male has the XY chromosome pairing that denotes a male. Males are generally stronger, faster, and bigger than females; the male advantage in sports ranges from 10% to over 50% depending on the sport, which is why the Olympics segregates competitors based on sex. Indeed, the top female swimmer in the 100-meter freestyle event in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics would have placed 55th if she competed against men. And one of the first things we notice about a person is whether they are male or female; even very young children are able to do this. As Matt Walsh writes:
“For the majority of human history, it was taken for granted that a person’s status as ‘man’ or ‘woman’ was purely biological and determined by his or her sex at birth. Nobody had any notion of a ‘gender spectrum’ or ‘gender fluidity.’ There have always been effeminate men and masculine women, but there was never any thought given to the possibility that the effeminate man might really be a woman, and the masculine woman might really be a man.”
What caused people to jettison the truth for unreality? Relativism. Our elites, who dominate the “cultural heights” of our society, completely adopted relativism, or the idea that there is no objective truth but rather that “truth” is what we want it to be. Under relativism, not even objective physical reality can stand in the way of what a person wants to be true, science and reason be damned. And if you disagree that a person cannot change unchangeable things, peer pressure and sometimes even force will be exerted to try to silence your protestations about the truth. As Father Gerald Murray writes in his book Calming the Storm:
“[Relativism] led to the basic proposition that modern thinking in so many ways reflects, i.e., that the world is whatever I want it to be, and I can and will use force to make it so, because the only reason it isn’t the way I want it to be is because some evil opponents are stopping me and my friends from accomplishing it. And that is basically what we have today in the woke ‘cancel-culture’ movement.”
Thus, under relativism, not even the physical reality of the body can define truth. Thus, if a biological male wants his “truth” to be that he is a female, then he in fact is a female, his male body notwithstanding. Along with this comes the belief that sex is merely “assigned” at birth rather than being a concrete reality. And if you disagree with these statements, well, you are a bigot who must be cancelled.
So there you have it. One hundred years from now our descendants will look back at the first half of the 21st century and be incredulous that many people actually believed that a biological male could “in fact” become a female by believing so. They will wonder how we actually thought that we could make up our own “truth” that flew in the face of reality, reason, natural law, and common sense, not to mention the religious teachings of the major religions of the world, and get other people to actually go along with the charade. One hundred years is not that far off; we need to start the process now of returning to reality and the truth. Our descendants are counting on us.
