Silvano Aureoles, former governor of the state of Michoacán, attended this Friday (30 September) the World Congress of Families 2022, held at Expo Santa Fe in Mexico City, at the invitation of Archbishop Carlos Aguiar Retes.

“I know and talk with them, by the way, the Archbishop Primate of Mexico gave me good ideas to work on initiatives that help us strengthen family ties, we need it,” he said in an interview with Quadratín México news agency.

“I have a friendship with His Excellency Cardinal Don Carlos Aguiar. I have known him for many years. I have a very good relationship with the Archbishop of Morelia, my fellow countryman Carlos Garfias, with Monsignor Rogelio-Cabrera, the Archbishop of Monterrey, who is the president of the Episcopate,” shared the Michoacan native.

In a context of crisis and problems that Mexico and the world are going through, Aureoles Conejo affirmed that the solution lies in the family, the other is complementary; “the school is there for children to learn, develop capabilities, skills and transform things, but the starting point is the family, it is the anchor, that is why we must pay close attention to this”.

The former president visited the world’s most important intercultural and interreligious event of its kind, held for the second time in Mexico, 18 years later, accompanied by his entourage, including the former Secretary of Public Security of the state of Michoacán, Juan Bernardo Corona.

“The world and the country are in turmoil, we have been kidnapped by violence, growing insecurity, drug addiction problems, a thousand calamities that beset our society,” said Silvano Aureoles, reiterating that the fundamental point is the rooting that the family gives you, “because not even the school solves that”.

The Michoacan politician considered the World Congress of Families 2022 very opportune due to the family disintegration that is taking place in the world and that generates many difficulties in young people.

“In the end, we want to make more laws, we want to build more prisons, we want more police and we do not take care of the basic foundation of stability and harmony in society, which is the family. That is why I thought the context was very important,” he said.
