More abortion horror in Washington

Surge Clinic gives Xanax to pregnant women: one way among many to "make profit." Undercover investigation exposes the horrid practice.

Revelations about abortion practice are increasingly shocking. In the wake of the US Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on Dobbs, the so-called “free-choice” advocates, who are now whining about the possible mass return of illegal abortions, are drowning in a sea of irregularities and illegality. The unstated goal is always the same: just like corporations, abortion clinics aim to maximize their profit and, in order to do business, are willing to do the most heinous things.

This was confirmed with the recent undercover survey, carried out by Live Action, one of the most prominent and well-known US pro-life networks. Posing as a patient, a Live Action worker goes to talk to a nurse at the Washington-Surge Clinic, who reveals to her two particularly shocking details: before making arrangements with the doctor about the procedure, patients must take Xanax, a drug that temporarily impairs the state of full consciousness. In addition, the woman can go and deliver her dead baby alone in her own hotel room.

Another disturbing detail: at the Surge Clinic, the nurse explains, it is a method that is not practiced, but in other clinics they give the baby digoxin directly (a lethal drug that kills the baby in utero), well before inducing delivery.

The predictable tragedy at the hotel

In the video the undercover patient asks the nurse what the protocol is. The nurse explains that her baby “will be alive when you go to sleep” but will surely be dead when the mother wakes up. The nurse speaks of “miscarriage” that would occur, inducing “premature labor” which would be followed by expulsion of the fetus “at the hotel.”

When the young woman then asks how it is possible to secure help in that circumstance, she is coldly told, “We could simply tell you what to do with the remains. It just depends on what happens.”

The undercover patient also asks what the effects of Xanax might be on her “clear thinking.” She is answered, “You might be a little sleepy, but other than that….” “I’d really prefer to talk to him first,” retorts the girl referring to the doctor. She is, however, left with no choice: “We have to make sure that [Xanax] is in your metabolism before we talk to the doctor.”

Sedate and deceived

After viewing the video, Dr. Christina Francis, newly appointed chief executive officer of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG), confirmed the patient’s doubts about Xanax, a substance that, in a person not accustomed to taking it, “is sure to impair her judgment and thus her ability to formulate true informed consent.”

A sedative such as Xanax, Dr. Francis adds, often prevents users from driving or operating heavy machinery for up to 24 hours, “impairing their ability to make complex decisions.”

Lila Rose, president and founder of Live Action, says that forcing people to take “mind-altering drugs,” prior to confrontation with the abortion doctor to whom final consent must be given is a “violation of basic medical ethics.”

In light of this, Rose says, the undercover investigator filed a complaint with the D.C. Federal District Medical Board, asking it to investigate this procedure, which does not appear ethical at all.

There is, however, a further twist that is truly disturbing: the fact that since the baby is not murdered before inducing delivery at the Washington-Surge Clinic opens the door to even bleaker scenarios. That is, it increases “the chances of babies being born alive, only to be brutally and illegally killed” afterwards, Lila Rose argues.

The House of Horrors

Indeed, the shocking video released by Live Action may indicate a “likely ethical violation and may warrant further investigation,” suggests Ben Mitchell, an ethics expert and former professor of moral philosophy at Union University.

“Being a physician entails profound ethical responsibilities and professional duties to inform and care for the patient,” Mitchell adds, recalling that not answering questions the patient asks is a “dereliction of duty” on the part of the physician.

For her part, Lila Rose hopes that “authorities in the Federal District, including the mayor, the medical examiner, and the police chief” would investigate the clinic and its director, gynecologist Cesare Santangelo.

“Not only are they killing babies through abortion, but they may be committing infanticide, as well as other federal crimes such as partial-birth abortion. We demand justice for these children and the closure of the Federal District’s House of Horrors, the Washington-Surge Clinic,” concludes the Live Action leader.

The clinic in the US capital has already been in the eye of the storm in recent months for a series of suspected infanticides. Back then, the affair was also exposed and reported by Live Action.
