An LGBT group affiliated with the Anglican community, LGBTQ Faith UK, has recently made the blasphemous claim that the Bible supports transgender identity. Their assertion is part of the “Bible Affirms” series, and they hold the notion that some biblical characters are neither male nor female.
The group claims that eunuchs, people who were forcibly castrated, can be viewed as biblical figures who reflect transgender people of today. The group refers to certain biblical instances to support their argument. For instance, they mention the apostle Philip baptizing an Ethiopian eunuch, emphasizing that the eunuch was acknowledged as a ‘child of God’ and an equal member of the early Christian church.
They additionally attempt to classify certain biblical characters as ‘queer’, defined by diverse gender behavior. Deborah from the book of Judges, who led an army into battle, is identified as one such figure.
This group and its attempts to subvert biblical teachings with ideological narratives reflect the growth in attacks on religion and traditional values. Instead of “live and let live”, groups such as LGBTQ Faith UK are attempting to infiltrate every part of society which does not fall in line with LGBT ideology. The attempt to redefine biblical characters as “transgender” or “nonbinary”, is clearly an attempt to redefine Western culture in line with the modern worldview.
