Texas-based abortionist, Dr. Ghazaleh Moayedi, has stated in a recent Mother’s Day post that becoming a mother herself has fortified her resolve to offer abortions, claiming that it is an act of love. Writing for Glamour, Dr. Moayedi addressed the notion of motherhood and its supposed contrast to the provision of abortion services. She argued that her experience as a mother has enhanced her compassion and commitment to provide the care needed by women considering abortions. What is really being described here is not love, but a selfish sense of self preservation and an unwillingness to accept responsibility.

Dr. Moayedi expressed disappointment at the lack of societal recognition for the difficult decision many mothers face when choosing an abortion. She asserted that, just like other actions related to motherhood, deciding to have an abortion can be seen as an act of love. She believes that choosing when to parent is an expression of love, as is deciding to end a pregnancy. In her article, Dr. Moayedi recounted an incident where she carried out an abortion procedure for a mother of two. Despite the somber circumstances, she recalled the warmth of their conversation about motherhood during the procedure.

However, Dr. Moayedi also revealed the challenges she faced as a pregnant resident during her OB-GYN training. The medical system, she says, discouraged her from becoming a mother at that point in her career. She faced derogatory remarks and felt compelled to work harder to prove that her pregnancy would not undermine her medical responsibilities.

While Dr. Moayedi asserts that “Choosing an abortion is an act of love,” critics of her viewpoint, such as Andrea Trudden, Vice President of Communications and Marketing for Heartbeat International, argue otherwise. They highlight the harm caused to the unborn child in an abortion and question who exactly benefits from this act of supposed love.

These contentions are fully justified. Calling abortion an “act of love” is the same as calling euthaniasia “mercy killing”. They are both murder, and no excuse of not being ready or fear of failiure justifies murder. Now there is room for compassion for those woman struggling with what to do during an unexpected pregnancy. This is a very confusing and scary time, and it might seem as though abortion is the only option. But it never is, and the murder of an innocent defensless child can never be concieved of as an “act of love”.
