The Harry Potter movie series turns 20 years old this month. To celebrate the anniversary of one of the most popular movie franchises of all time, HBO will be airing a reunion special on January 1, 2022 which will feature many of the actors and other people involved with the eight Harry Potter movies. But one key person (nay, the most important) was not invited to participate in the reunion special: J.K Rowling, the very author of the book series, who had been previously very involved in the production process of each film. Why was she not invited to the upcoming reunion? It is because–despite being socially liberal on most issues–Rowling had dared to cross the radical transgender lobby.
The attacks on Rowling by radical transgender activists began in December 2019 when she expressed support for a woman who lost her job due to “transphobic” tweets about sex being determined by biology. In her tweet on the matter, Rowling stated: “Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?”
A few months later, Rowling committed that “sin” of following on Twitter a lesbian feminist who likewise believed in the importance of biological sex and stated that lesbians should not be called bigots for not wanting to date transgender women (biological men who claim to be women).
But the radical transgender attacks against Rowling began in earnest on June 6, 2020. In response to an article entitled “Creating a more equal world for people who menstruate,” Rowling tweeted: “People who menstruate, I am sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”
Later that day she followed this tweet with two more. In the first she said: “I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.” In the second, she tweeted: “I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.”
Even with these caveats regarding the transgendered, Rowland was attacked like never before by the radical LGBT activists. She was called transphobic. She was called a TERF—a Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. She was accused of invaliding the transgender community. She was even attacked by the very people whom she made millionaires because of her books. Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in the movie series, stated in response to Rowling’s tweets: “Transgender women are women…To all the people who now feel that their experience of the [Harry Potter] books has been tarnished or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you.” Likewise, Emma Watson, who played Hermione in the films, tweeted: “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.”
Rowling, however, stood by the truth and defiantly refused to back down before this radical transgender activist onslaught. In an essay written on June 10, 2020, entitled “J.K. Rowling Writes about Her Reasons for Speaking out on Sex and Gender,” she boldly declared:
“I refuse to bow down to a movement that I believe is doing demonstrable harm in seeking to erode ‘woman’ as a political and biological class and offering cover to predators like few before it…
I want trans women to be safe. At the same time, I do not want to make natal girls and women less safe. When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman–and, as I’ve said, gender confirmation certificates may now be granted without any need for surgery or hormones–then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside. That is the simple truth…
I’m concerned about the huge explosion in young women wishing to transition and also about the increasing numbers who seem to be de-transitioning (returning to their original sex), because they regret taking steps that have, in some cases, altered their bodies irrevocably, and taken away their fertility… I want to be very clear here: I know transition will be a solution for some gender dysphoric people, although I’m also aware through extensive research that studies have consistently shown that between 60-90% of gender dysphoric teens will grow out of their dysphoria…
I’ve read all the arguments about femaleness not residing in the sexed body, and the assertions that biological women don’t have common experiences, and I find them, too, deeply misogynistic and regressive. It’s also clear that one of the objectives of denying the importance of sex is to erode what some seem to see as the cruelly segregationist idea of women having their own biological realities or–just as threatening–unifying realities that make them a cohesive political class. The hundreds of emails I’ve received in the last few days prove this erosion concerns many others just as much. It isn’t enough for women to be trans allies. Women must accept and admit that there is no material difference between trans women and themselves.
Moreover, the ‘inclusive’ language that calls female people ‘menstruators’ and ‘people with vulvas’ strikes many women as dehumanising and demeaning. I understand why trans activists consider this language to be appropriate and kind, but for those of us who’ve had degrading slurs spat at us by violent men, it’s not neutral, it’s hostile and alienating.”
So there you have it. One of the most popular authors of all time, and who agrees with the left on many if not most social issues, dares to not follow the radical LGBT party line on transgenderism. The result: she is cancelled by HBO and Warner Brothers (the production company of the film series) and prohibited from participating in the 20th anniversary special of a wildly popular movie series based on her books. Rags, to riches… to persona non grata. And all because she dared to say that biology and being born female actually matter.
Whether or not you like the Harry Potter movies or books, you should stand with J.K. Rowling for boldly defending the truth against a hostile radical LGBT mob that thinks they can just wave a magic wand, utter some Marxist incantations, and make reality… disappear.
