The Socialist Rifle Association (SRA), a self-described Marxist-Leninist and transgender-inclusive gun group of roughly 10,000 members, has been linked to several violent crimes in a recent investigation. These incidents include the firebombing of Tesla dealerships, assaults on law enforcement officers, and incendiary attacks. The group trains members in tactical gear, long-range firearms use, and operates chapters pushing ideologically extreme messages.
SRA materials prominently display militant imagery, including assault rifles superimposed on transgender pride flags and slogans like “defend equality.” Their ideology frames “fascists” and “Nazis” broadly, justifying preparation violence against conservatives. Some statements attribute incitement to events such as January 6 and dismiss them as provocations that legitimize violent readiness.
Court documents suggest that SRA-affiliated individuals or chapters have been involved in serious violent offenses: a Dallas-Fort Worth member is charged with shooting a police officer; in Las Vegas, a man who followed SRA media accounts set fire to and shot at Tesla properties; in Oregon, another former member allegedly used a semi-automatic rifle to attack a Tesla dealership after previously damaging it.
The SRA was founded in Kansas in 2019 by Alexander Tackett (who now identifies as Alex Norma Tackett) and associate Faye Ecklar. Their leadership statements indicate that a notable portion of the membership identifies as transgender or non-binary, and adheres to radical left positions. They organize events like “Queer Range Days,” recruit members under slogans that combine leftist ideology and firearm awareness, and often emphasize readiness to confront perceived threats to their rights.
While SRA’s national branch has denied that Tyler Robinson—the suspect in the Charlie Kirk assassination—is a member, questions remain about disclosure and accountability. The group’s aggressive ideological posture, combined with ties to violent actions, has sparked fear in conservative Americans in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Law enforcement and policymakers are facing pressure to more closely scrutinize leftist extremist groups that operate under the guise of civil liberties and gun rights.
