A physician in Texas has surrendered her medical license amid allegations she violated state law by providing transition treatments to minors. May Chi Lau of Children’s Medical Center Dallas reportedly prescribed hormone therapies to at least 21 minors, despite the state’s 2023 ban on gender medication for individuals under 18.
State Attorney General Ken Paxton initiated legal action against Dr. Lau, accusing her of using false diagnostic codes and billing practices to conceal the treatments from regulators. Under the settlement, Lau agreed to cease clinical practice in Texas; her license was officially revoked on October 9, 2025.
Though the doctor’s misconduct is alleged, she did not admit wrongdoing as part of the agreement. Facing prosecution, she plans to relocate her practice to Oregon, where gender-transition treatments for minors remain legal.
Supporters of the legislation in Texas argue that medical interventions for gender transition in children carry long-term risks and irreversible consequences. The case highlights the substantial regulatory and ethical considerations surrounding minors and gender-related medical care.
