New York passes a slew of radical pro-abortion laws in anticipation of Roe v. Wade being overturned

Ever since a draft Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade and turn the abortion issue over to the states was leaked on May 2, 2022, pro-abortion Democrats (or about 99% of Democrats) have been in a panic over how to deal with this potential blow to their sacred right. New York, the leading leftist state, just took action by passing six laws to protect abortion rights from the potential overturning of Roe.

Five of the laws provide protections to New York doctors who perform abortions on residents from states where abortion becomes illegal and to New York citizens who assist in the process. For example, one law prohibits New York courts from extraditing anyone in regard to abortion-related matters and from cooperating with other states on abortion-related cases and prohibits law enforcement from cooperating with abortion-related investigations from states that outlaw or restrict abortion. Another law allows New York residents to bring an action against anyone who has sued them or brought charges against them for abortion-related matters and yet another prohibits misconduct charges to be brought against doctors and other healthcare providers for actions relating to abortion and other reproductive health matters. The sixth law attacks pro-life pregnancy centers by ordering a state investigation of them.

Regarding this slew of pro-abortion laws, “Catholic” New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who signed the laws on June 13, 2022, declared:

“My friends, the sky is on the verge of falling literally in the next week or two. That is a very real possibility. And that’s why we’re here today. I have three messages regarding the persistent assault on women’s rights, and a woman’s right to determine and make her own decisions about her own body. And they are simple messages: Not here. Not now. Not ever. Thank you.

The women of New York will never be subjugated to government mandated pregnancies because that’s what will ensue if Roe v. Wade is overturned by the Supreme Court. This is the United States of America, where freedom and liberty are supposed to mean something. It’s the rock upon which we were founded. It is supposed to mean something. Except in the eyes of some Neanderthals who say, women are not entitled to those rights.”

“Catholic” New York Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado stated:

“New York refuses to sit back and allow the Supreme Court to reverse years of progress by taking away a woman’s right to make choices about her own body. We will provide a safe haven for women in New York with this nation leading package of legislation signed into law today which protects a patient’s rights and empowers reproductive healthcare providers. New York will never stop fighting to make sure that women who are seeking safe, accessible abortion services receive them.”

(Why is it that the most pro-abortion leaders in the country, from President Biden, Speaker Pelosi and retired Supreme Court Justice Kennedy to Governor Hochul and Lt. Governor Delgado, are all Catholics? The Catholic Church sure did a poor job in teaching the faith to some of its more influential adherents….)

New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Basset likewise praised the laws and threw in a nod to the “equity” regime:

“New York has done much to enshrine abortion rights into law, and for that I am grateful and proud. Safe abortions protect our medical and physical well-being, and provide us with the choice of autonomy and intervention, but are also filtered through the inequities of our society and this will be particularly true among Black, Brown, and Indigenous people as these new barriers will mean less access for communities of color and those who are low income further entrenching long standing inequities.”

(Dr. Bassett seems to have forgotten that 67% of abortions end up killing minority babies and that the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margart Sanger, wanted to use abortion to wipe out the black population. Details, details….)

So there you have it. Leftist New York State passes five new laws to protect abortionists and their collaborators in the event that the U.S. Supreme Court overrules Roe v. Wade and one law to intimidate pro-life pregnancy centers by ordering an investigation of them. And if you dare to oppose these new laws, Governor Hochul considers you a “Neanderthal.” I am so glad my family left New York four decades ago and moved to Florida.
