After the Muslim community in Dearborn, Michigan, protested the presence of several sexually explicit books in their school district’s libraries, the district decided to take decisive action. As reported by the Daily Caller, the district has removed completely from the school district the books Red, White, and Royal Blue, which contains sexually explicit LGBT scenes, and Push, which is about a girl who is sexually abused by her father. The district is still deciding about whether to remove This Book is Gay, which is a sexually explicit LGBT memoir, and All Boys Aren’t Blue, a book about a queer black boy that contains sexually explicit scenes.
The action of the school district came after the Muslim community protested the presence of the books at a prior school board meeting in October. Hassan Chami, a concerned Muslim activist and parent, told the Daily Caller News Foundation:
“The sexually explicit material in these books was just a catalyst that brought forward broader concerns about the state of public education today and where it’s at, and that the traditional partnership between parents and public education has been compromised. What you’re seeing now is a grassroots movement of concerned parents trying to reassert their right to direct education for their children.”
This successful parent action points to one very important truth—the traditional Muslim community can be a strong ally in the culture wars against the radical LGBT and woke agendas. Evangelical Christians, Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and Orthodox Jews, who have banded together as brothers in the culture wars, should seriously consider adding traditional Muslims to their alliance. We need all the allies we can get in our fight against the combined strength of Hollywood, Big Tech, Big Business, the media, and universities.
