Leftist European Union sets sights on Texas

One month after Texas' unequivocal stand for the sanctity of life, the EU passed a resolution condemning the "Heartbeat Bill" as "gender-based violence". Why is the EU meddling? Because Marxism never sleeps.

It is not enough for the European Union to harass and threaten EU members Poland and Hungary over their policies supporting the family, instilling a culture of life, and opposing the radical LGBT agenda.

Now the leftist EU wants to start doing the same thing to Texas.

That’s right. Texas. Which is not even a part of the EU. (Nor is the United States for that matter.)

After withstanding attacks at their home gate, Texas is now dealing with slings and arrows from abroad.

Why has the European Union decided to get involved in the affairs of the Great State of Texas? Because the state passed Senate Bill 8, the “Heartbeat Bill,” that prohibits abortions in Texas after the developing child possesses a heartbeat, roughly six weeks after conception. By a vote of 381 for, 253 against, and 36 abstaining, the European Parliament on October 7 passed a resolution stating that it “[j]oins the vocal condemnations across the USA of the adoption by the Texas Legislature of SB8…[and c]alls on the Government of the State of Texas to swiftly repeal SB8, to ensure safe, legal, free and good quality abortion services in the State and to make these services easily accessible to all women and girls.”

The resolution also states that the Texas law “is a form of gender-based violence” and gives the obligatory leftist nod to identity politics: “[The European Parliament] is deeply concerned about the fact that this law will disproportionately affect people experiencing socioeconomic hardships, people living in rural areas, racialised people, LGBTIQ+ people and those experiencing multiple and intersecting discrimination….” The resolution then calls upon the European Union and its member states “to offer all possible support, including financial support, to US-based civil society organizations protecting and promoting SRHR [sexual and reproductive health rights] in the country.”

Significantly, the resolution expresses deep dissatisfaction with the US Supreme Court because it “declined to rule on blocking the introduction of the unprecedented SB8”; it also notes that the EU “[i]s concerned by the upcoming consideration of the Supreme Court with Roe v. Wade and that this ground-breaking ruling which guarantees women’s rights could be overturned in the near future….” Fearing the domino effect, the resolution states that the EU is deeply worried that the actions of Texas, if left unchecked, will lead “other US States…encouraged by the inaction of the US Supreme Court…[to] attempt to pass abortions bans across the country, as has already been seen in Florida.”

The resolution then urges the US Congress to adopt the radical and misnamed “Women’s Health Protection Act” that would not only codify Roe v. Wade but would also expand it by prohibiting any state-level restrictions on abortion that are currently constitutional. The EU resolution—surprise, surprise—then heaps lavish praise on President Biden not only for fighting the Texas law but also for abolishing the pro-life policy of President Trump that prohibited any global health assistance money from going to organizations that provide or promote abortion.

The first thought that comes to mind upon reading the resolution is: “What right does the EU have to interfere in the internal affairs of Texas?” For that matter, what right does the EU have to interfere in the internal affairs of the United States? Doesn’t it have enough to deal with in regard to its own twenty-seven members? Just like in its battles with Poland and Hungary, where the EU has overstepped its bounds by trying to interfere in matters reserved to individual member states, the EU is once again butting in where it has no jurisdiction.

The next thought that comes to mind is that this is just another attempt by the leftist global elites of Western Europe trying to force their radical (which is to say, Marxist) pro-abortion, anti-family agenda on the United States. As in the responses of Poland and Hungary to similar EU actions, we should just tell these dysfunctional elites to go back to Brussels and take their leftist agenda with them.

With its newly passed resolution condemning the Great State of Texas for supporting a culture of life, the European Union once again is showing its true leftist colors. While the conservative countries of Poland and Hungary are standing strong in similar battles with the radical Brussel elites, the EU has not seen anything yet—because you “Don’t mess with Texas.” Just ask Santa Ana.
