During a recent forum sponsored by SBA Pro-Life, conservative pollster Kellyanne Conway urged pro-life Republicans to take a more proactive approach in defending their position. She called on the GOP to expose Democrats as radical pro-abortion extremists and reclaim the abortion debate. Conway pointed out that the pro-life community is constantly questioned about exceptions, but challenged the pro-abortion community to outline their own exemptions first. She emphasized that the Democratic Party has an extreme stance on abortion, supporting it at any stage of pregnancy without exception.
Conway highlighted that being pro-life is not compatible with having a job in the federal government in Washington, D.C. at this time. She criticized the lack of representation for pro-lifers within the Democratic Party. Conway asserted that Republicans are in line with mainstream American views on abortion when they advocate for sensible limits, such as a 15-week ban. She stated that the majority of Americans support this timeframe and reject the more extreme positions held by the Democratic Party.
The pollster also criticized Republicans who shy away from the abortion issue, arguing that it concedes the debate and sets them up for automatic loss. She asserted that having a clear and consistent position on abortion is essential for any Republican candidate running for president, Senate, or Congress. Conway emphasized the need for authenticity and consistency in addressing the abortion issue.
Conway’s comments align with recent polls that show a majority of Americans support limits on abortion. One poll indicated that 77% of Americans support such limits, while a Gallup survey revealed that a plurality of Americans oppose all or most abortions.
