At the end of November, the French National Assembly voted by a large majority to include a ‘right to abortion’ in the French constitution.
Accordingly, on the evening of November 24, 337 deputies voted in favor of inclusion, and only 32 against.
The following text should be added to the Constitution: “The law guarantees (…) equal access to the right to voluntary abortion.”
However, it remains to be seen whether the constitutional amendment will actually be implemented. After the National Assembly, the French Senate must also give its approval. It already rejected the constitutional amendment in October. In addition, a positive referendum is also needed for the change.
