It looks like McDonald’s is now going down the yellow arch road of adopting policies that openly discriminate against people based on their skin color. Indeed, it has recently adopted two policies that clearly show its commitment to discrimination. First, last year McDonald’s dedicated $250 million over the next five years to increase ownership of McDonald’s franchises by non-white people. If you are white, you are not eligible for the program. Period. Second, the company just adopted a policy of not favoring the family members of current franchisees when awarding new franchises. Why did it adopt this policy? Specifically because too many white people took advantage of this policy.
As a result of these and other actions, franchise owners have staged a revolt against McDonald’s corporate leadership. As reported by CNBC, in a poll conducted by the National Owners Association, an independent McDonald’s franchisee advocacy group composed of about 1,000 members, 87% of respondents want a call for a “no-confidence” vote in McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski (incidentally, my cousin) and U.S. Operations President Joe Erlinger. In addition, 95% of respondents feel that corporate leadership does not have their best interests in mind in regard to franchising and 71% believe that potential new franchisees should not be treated the same as existing or legacy franchisees.
Let’s hope that the voices of the franchisees—who own 95% of McDonalds restaurants—will be heeded. If not, McDonald’s will become the latest woke corporation to give in to the discriminatory policy of “diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
