The one dollar coin in Canada is called the “loonie.” The term should also apply to the new Canadian law that bans saying that heterosexuality is normal and that boys should identify as males and girls as females. Specifically, the new law, which took effect this month in Canada, bans “conversion therapy.” What is “conversion therapy”? According to the law, “conversion therapy” is:
a practice, treatment or service designed to
(a) change a person’s sexual orientation to heterosexual;
(b) change a person’s gender identity to cisgender;
(c) change a person’s gender expression so that it conforms to the sex assigned to the person at birth;
(d) repress or reduce non-heterosexual attraction or sexual behaviour;
(e) repress a person’s non-cisgender gender identity; or
(f) repress or reduce a person’s gender expression that does not conform to the sex assigned to the person at birth.
The penalty for engaging in conversion therapy is harsh: up to five years in prison.
As social commentator Matt Walsh perceptively remarked on the new law:
“Canada’s new law declares that you are guilty of “conversion therapy” and subject to five years in prison if you counsel your biological male child to accept his male identity.”
Likewise pastors, priests, rabbis, and imams could be sent to jail for five years if they dare to tell their congregations to adhere to traditional Jewish, Christian, or Muslim morality and ideas about gender. To say that God made people “male and female”(Genesis 1:27) could land a religious leader in jail.
What is especially hypocritical about the law is that it allows practices, treatments and services that encourage a child to become transgendered or homosexual. In addition to the language cited above that specifically outlaws anything that favors traditional sexuality and gender identification, the law specifically states:
“For greater certainty, this definition [of conversion therapy] does not include a practice, treatment or service that relates to the exploration or development of an integrated personal identity — such as a practice, treatment or service that relates to a person’s gender transition — and that is not based on an assumption that a particular sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression is to be preferred over another.”
Commentator Landon Starbuck tweeted:
“So if your kid feels insecure or confused with their gender or sexuality, you can only get “therapy” if they convert to the identity that is anything but the biological norm. That’s not therapy, that’s conversion coercion.”
Because belief in traditional morality is being penalized, thousands of pastors throughout Canada on Sunday, January 16, used their sermons to protest the new law. As quoted in Fox News, Canadian Pastor James Coates declared:
“I believe our government is capitalizing on a politically expedient segment of its constituency in an effort to further dismantle Western civilization as we know it. To do this, it must outlaw its very foundation, which is rooted in a Judeo-Christian worldview.”
Likewise, Canadian Pastor Tim Stephens stated:
“We’ve seen that the new prevailing worldview is totalitarian, seeking to define marriage, sexuality, and control health choices. It is absolutely intolerant to opposing beliefs. All socialistic and communistic movements hate the authority and law of God that Christianity promotes.”
Canada really has gone off the deep end with this law. Traditional views on sexuality and gender that until the last minute were supported by the overwhelming majority of people who ever have lived—views which are still dominant in Africa, Asia, and South America—are now deemed immoral while the views of an extremely small minority are deemed the standard.
Dare to speak the truth in Canada, and its socialist government will imprison you, just like the communist leaders in the Soviet Union did with anyone who dared to expose the lies of Marxism. With laws like this, I am so glad that I live south of the Canadian border.
