There are now so many cases like his that they risk no longer making the news. In 2018, David Mackereth, an esteemed physician with 26 years in the profession behind him, was fired from the emergency room where he worked on an accusation that was as pointed as it was absurd: with transgender patients, he “persisted” in using pronouns that fit their biology and not their imagined gender identity.
In these four years, Dr. Mackereth has not bowed to any brainwashing and has never despaired of reinstatement. The first judgment against him, handed down in October 2019, was unfavorable: the judge called the doctor’s beliefs not “worthy of respect in a democratic society” and “incompatible with human dignity.”
Mackereth never gave up, however, and appealed the decision before the Employment Appeal Tribunal, which will hear the case between March 28 and 29. Giving legal support to the plaintiff is the Christian Legal Center. In fact, Dr. Mackereth hopes to enforce his religious beliefs, as they are protected by state law.

“My case affects everyone; not just me and Bible-believing Christians but anyone who fears the strains and impositions of transgender ideology as applied to the NHS and other public services,” the doctor says. “The two-year sentence told Christians, ‘You have to believe in transgender ideology.’ But this is totalitarianism. It nullifies the Christian faith as if it didn’t exist… even the Bible as if it didn’t exist. This cannot be allowed to continue.”
Dr. Mackereth’s attorneys are counting on a 2021 ruling that could overturn the one handed down two years earlier against their client. The reference is to the Employment Appeal Tribunal’s decision in favor of Maya Forstater, who had lost her job because of her views on transgenderism.
Mackereth’s fault is this: when his former boss at work asked him, “If a six-foot-tall, bearded man asked you to call him ‘ma’am’ and referred to himself in the third person as ‘she,’ would you do it?” The doctor said no.
“This was an unheard of ruling that, if upheld, will shake like an earthquake not only for the healthcare system and Christians, but anyone in the workplace who still wants to believe and to say that man was created male and female,” says Andrea Williams, CEO of the Christian Legal Center.
Dr. Mackereth’s claim being sacrosanct, the battle for reality and freedom of opinion is the battle for the good of all; even those who do not share his ideas and his religious orientation.
