Hanover’s municipal daycare centers are now stocked with “queer book boxes” funded by an €11,000 surplus budget allocation, aiming to indoctrinate young children with themes of sexual and gender diversity. Spearheaded by the city’s commissioner for sexual and gender diversity, Maximilian Horn, and a queer employees’ group, each of over 40 Kitas receives a €270 box with 14 books portraying non-traditional families, body types, disabilities, and gender expressions.
Titles include Teddy Tilly, where a teddy bear transitions from boy to girl, promoting “courage to be different” and tolerance; Julian is a Mermaid, for four-year-olds, featuring a boy dressing as a mermaid and attending a lesbian wedding; and A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, a satirical tale of two male rabbits marrying, mocking conservative figures like Mike Pence. City officials, backed by Mayor Belit Onay of The Greens, defend the initiative as fostering self-acceptance and reflecting real-life diversity, like same-sex parents, without sexualization. Training on LGBT topics has been ongoing since 2018 for managers and 2020 for staff, embedding this agenda in childcare.
But this overreach has ignited fierce backlash. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) calls it a scandal of woke indoctrination, overwhelming preschoolers and bypassing parents. AfD MP Vanessa Behrendt vows to scrutinize every book and demand a state government response: “Children are confronted with content that overwhelms and unsettles them… Abusive municipal employees with a ‘woke’ agenda have to stay out of the minds of our children.”
This scheme exemplifies the radical left’s assault on innocence, wasting taxpayer money on divisive ideology. As Western societies grapple with early gender education, it erodes parental rights and traditional values, demanding accountability to protect our youngest from premature confusion.
