A government-funded “Trans Café” in Bremen, Germany, has permanently shut down following multiple reports of sexual abuse, exposing the dangers of taxpayer-backed spaces promoting gender confusion.
The café, hosted twice monthly at the KWEER bar in the Rat & Tat Centre for queer life, catered to transgender individuals but became a site of exploitation and harm. At least four serious sexual abuse incidents were reported, including three near the café and one involving a member of the organizing team as the perpetrator.
Additional minor incidents occurred after a temporary closure, culminating in a major undisclosed case that sealed its fate. The organizers admitted to reacting slowly to the initial abuse, feeling overwhelmed, and struggling with internal divisions. They implemented a code of conduct and stricter standards with external help, but ultimately announced the permanent closure on Instagram, citing ongoing safety issues.The Rat & Tat Centre, which hosted the café, receives €446,470 annually from the Bremen city-state government for 2024 and 2025—funds now wasted on a project that failed to protect vulnerable participants.
Operators reflected on their role in enabling such dynamics, banning all known perpetrators and vowing to expel their protectors, but uncertainty lingers about reopening a similar trans space.This scandal underscores the risks of state-sponsored initiatives that prioritize radical gender ideology over safety and accountability.
