The conservative Slovakian government, led by Prime Minister Robert Fico, is working to enshrine protections from LGBT ideology into the Slovakian constitution. The proposed constitutional amendment aims to recognize the reality of gender as male and female, protect children from same sex adoption, and promote national sovereignty in the face of EU overreach.
Earlier this year, Fico stated that he recognised only two sexes, male and female, added that marriage was the unique union of man and woman.
“There is a real constitutional majority that can strengthen the traditional understanding of family and a healthy view of the existence of two sexes in September,” he said.
Regarding so-called gender fluidity, Fico said: “If you want someone to feel like a lamp or a chair, or a helicopter or a dog, let them feel that way, but we will recognise in the Constitution only two sexes, man and woman.”
This constitutional amendment will be enforced in schools, he said. “The State educational programme must be in line with the principles and values of the Constitution. Anything beyond that will have to be approved by parents.”
While the amendment has been met with opposition from the liberal wing of the Slovakian government, it is expected to be voted on by September 25th. If passed, the amendment will be a massive victory for the pro-life, pro-family cause in Slovakia, and a sign of positive developements in Europe regarding family and life.
