In a recent interview on the All-In Podcast, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy stated that while he is “personally pro-life,” he would not sign a federal abortion ban to protect unborn babies. Ramaswamy, a businessman and author, believes that abortion is an “issue for the states”.

Ramaswamy expressed his position that the federal government has no legal basis to legislate on abortion. He stated that he is open to persuasion if a constitutional scholar can convince him otherwise, but currently, he would not sign a law to limit or ban abortions if elected president. However, he did agree with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and believes that states should have the authority to protect the lives of unborn babies.

While acknowledging his belief that unborn life is life, Ramaswamy criticized the pro-life movement for not doing enough to help families in need. He emphasized his commitment to supporting contraception, adoption, childcare, sexual responsibility, and responsible fatherhood. Ramaswamy believes that if people on both sides of the abortion debate can work together on these issues, abortion should not be as divisive as it has become.

This is not the first time Ramaswamy has expressed opposition to a federal ban on abortions. He previously stated in an interview with Fox News that abortion is an issue for the states and that the federal government should not be involved.

Ramaswamy joins other Republican presidential candidates such as former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, former North Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Tim Scott, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum in the race for the party’s nomination.

At the heart of every Republican candidates campaign for president should be a concern for the wellbeing of the American people, including those not yet born. Creating a culture of life creates strong families, which in turn creates a stronger America. Ramaswamy must not only be pro-life in his personal life, but declare the sanctity of life for all to be considered a truly conservative option for president.
