Saving both lives

Even among active pro-abortionists, the notion remains that abortion is a drama for women.

As we do every month, on Saturday we went to pray the Rosary in front of a place where abortions are performed in Madrid, the capital of Spain. The law prohibiting “harassment” of women seeking abortions is already in force. That is why on this occasion there were several important media outlets, among them La Sexta (a radical left-wing media outlet) and Televisión Española (a militant left-wing public media outlet). And there was also a small group of feminists whistling and shouting.

Later, quite a stir was organized on Twitter with hundreds of messages insulting us and accusing us of being criminals.

Reading some of the messages, I was struck by the fact that many people accused us of going to pray and said things like “those who are going to have an abortion have enough to do without meeting you there”. Somehow I was glad to see that, even among active pro-abortionists, the mentality remains that abortion is a drama for women. But then I cannot understand why they advocate that it is a right, that it is something positive and good for those same women and therefore should be defended, and why they attack those who try to help those women who, as they themselves acknowledge, are suffering.

The day before the Rosary, Friday, one of my daughters was at the Godmother Foundation helping as she does every Friday afternoon, when they called from the Provida Shelter located in front of the Dator. There was a girl there who had come for help. She was pregnant, her boyfriend wanted her to have an abortion and she refused, he had kicked her out of the house and she had nothing. My daughter went to pick her up and accompanied her to the Foundation where they took care of her; they placed her in one of the apartments they have and are going to help her find a job, give her support and company so she can have her baby and raise it with serenity and in company.

The people who attacked us on Saturday and who harassed and insulted us on Twitter–I don’t know if they know these things, if they know how wonderful it is to be able to welcome someone who wants to have a baby, if they have seen human dramas of this kind up close.

Indeed, most women who have abortions do not want to do so. That is why we must welcome them when they need help, offer them help and pray. That is the only way we can save both lives.
