A State University of New York professor not only believes that calling pedophilia wrong “is a mistake”, he believes it is society that has some issues it has to sort out with regard to adult-child sex.
Stephen Kershnar, who teaches libertarian philosophy and applied ethics at the Fredonia campus, made further shocking comments in an almost one hour long interview (warning–disturbing content for youth who may be within earshot) with the YouTube channel Brain in a Vat.
In the exchange, Kershnar starts by questioning–with ample conviction–society’s long and deeply held belief that it’s wrong for adults to have sex with children. “It’s not obvious to me that it’s in fact wrong,” says Kershnar. “I think this is a mistake. And I think exploring that why it’s a mistake will tell us not only things about adult/(child) sex and statutory rape and also fundamental principles of morality.”
In one of the most disturbing moments of the interview, Kershnar discusses–without foundation–instances where grandmothers in “foreign cultures” perform oral sex on baby boys. “There are reports in some cultures of grandmas fellating their baby boys to calm them down if they’re colicky. I don’t know if this is true but this is sort of widely reported as occurring in at least a foreign culture–and it working, that the grandmas believe that this actually works. If this were to be true, and again, I don’t know it to be true, if this were to be true it’s hard to see what would be wrong with it.”
Kershnar also goes on to state that a child having sex with an adult is akin to a child’s understanding of playing sports.” There’s lots of activities that children engage in that they don’t understand all that well. For example, when you… first show up to participate in a Judo tournament, or you prepare for your Bar Mitzvah,” he said.
SUNY Fredonia President Stephen H. Kolison took to Twitter to condemn the interview and said the matter is under “review”–
Kershnar, who has been a SUNY employee for 23 years, is also an attorney and–according to his bio page–has written on “such diverse topics as abortion, adult-child sex, hell, most valuable player, pornography, punishment, sexual fantasies, slavery, and torture.”
As SUNY Fredonia is being bombarded online with calls to remove Kershnar immediately, YouTube has yet to remove the video from its site.
