A court in Germany has forbidden the former neighbor of a man no claiming to be a woman from continuing to address him by the name Rüdiger, which was given to him at birth, on pain of a 250,000 euro fine, RP Online reports.

Sophie Vivien Kutzner, who was given the name Rüdiger by his parents after his birth, has been identifying as a woman for just over six years. His former neighbor, who for years knew him only as Rüdiger, continued to address him by his birth name even after he began identifying as a woman.

The former neighbor had initially been asked to attend two mediation meetings, but failed to show up for them. Kutzner then sued the former neighbor, and the district court has now ruled that the man must refrain from continuing to call him Rüdiger. In the event of non-compliance, he is liable to a fine of EUR 250,000 or, failing that, to imprisonment.

The ex-neighbor also failed to appear at the court hearing.
