US Air Force faces criticism for sponsoring drag queen events at military base in the UK

In 2022, the U.S. Air Force sponsored two events featuring a drag queen, spending $400 on appearances by “Miss Lexi Andrews,” according to records obtained by Judicial Watch. The two events – “Drag Queen Bingo” and a “glow party” – were organized by the 423rd Force Support Squadron, a unit of the U.S. Air Force stationed at RAF Alconbury Air Base in the U.K. The services offered by the squadron are aimed at military personnel and their families at the base.

The obtained records also revealed promotional material for other drag-related events hosted by the U.S. Air Force, including a “Drag Story Time” in Germany and a “Drag Karaoke” featuring drag artist “Monarchy of RoyalTEA.” The revelations have led to criticism about the use of defense funds for such events, with some arguing that they detract from the military’s mission.

It’s worth noting that this development comes as the Department of Defense under the Biden administration has adopted a more LGBT friendly stance, allowing for transgender individuals to serve in the military and promoting LGBT events on bases. Controversially, the U.S. Navy suspended a “digital ambassador” program aimed at new recruits via social media after one of the ambassadors was revealed to be an active servicemember performing as a drag queen.
