A 26-year-old individual named William DeFoor was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to break into Vice President JD Vance’s home in Cincinnati, Ohio, by shattering multiple windows with a hammer and damaging a vehicle belonging to the U.S. Secret Service parked in the driveway.
The incident occurred on Monday, leading to charges including obstruction of official business, criminal damage or endangering, criminal trespass, and vandalism, according to official records. DeFoor, who identifies as transgender and uses the name Julia DeFoor with she/her pronouns, maintains social media profiles reflecting this identity. A Facebook account under “Julia DeFoor” features the suspect’s image and includes likes for pages such as “Heartland Trans Wellness.”
Similarly, an Instagram profile matches the name and appearance.The suspect’s father, William R. DeFoor Jr., a surgeon employed at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and known as Bob DeFoor on Facebook, has a history of contributing to Democratic causes. He is connected as a friend to the “Julia DeFoor” Facebook account.
DeFoor has a prior record involving similar offenses. In April, he faced arrest for vandalism-related activities and received a sentence mandating two years of treatment in a mental health facility, along with a $5,500 restitution payment. In response to the event, Vice President JD Vance expressed gratitude for the swift actions of law enforcement. He stated, “I appreciate everyone’s well wishes about the attack at our home. As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I’m grateful to the secret service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly. We weren’t even home as we had returned already to DC.”
Vance also urged media restraint, noting, “One request to the media: we try to protect our kids as much as possible from the realities of this life of public service. In that light, I am skeptical of the news value of plastering images of our home with holes in the windows.”
