Spanish Post Office to issue commemorative stamp of the Communist Party

"This is the exaltation of a political party that committed crimes and persecuted thousands of people solely because of their faith."

The Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers has requested precautionary measures to be taken by the Administrative Court to prevent the Post Office from issuing a stamp commemorating the centenary of the Communist Party.

It is a stamp whose design includes the hammer and sickle, and the colors of the flag of the republic.

The organization of jurists stated that the issuance of the stamp is against the duty of neutrality and objectivity of the Public Administrations as stated in the Constitution.

Christian Lawyers noted that “this represents the exaltation of a political party that committed crimes and persecuted thousands of people solely because of their faith.”

Therefore, the foundation of jurists added that “issuing this stamp is contrary to the Law of Democratic Memory and the resolution of the European Parliament condemning the exaltation of Communism.”

The President of Christian Lawyers, Polonia Castellanos, said it is “unacceptable that the government asks us to tighten our belts and then wastes everyone’s money on imposing its ideology, and exalting a party that committed crimes against Christians.”

The Christian Lawyers Foundation has also launched a petition on its website asking the director of the Post Office to withdraw the stamp before it goes into circulation.
