Today, Spanish media highlighted a headline-making tug of war, pertaining to the contentious euthanasia “rights”. The story centers on a father who has desperately fought in court against the approved euthanasia of his 23-year-old daughter.
The Spanish courts, treading uncharted waters, have currently put the execution of euthanasia for the young woman on hold until further notice from the higher authorities. Scheduled originally for August 2, it has now been delayed due to the legal battle. The father has asserted that his daughter lacks the mental capacity to give informed consent owing to her deep-seated mental disorders including suicidal tendencies, paranoia, and bipolar disorder.
According to ACI Prensa, the young woman is severely impaired with limited mobility in her legs, a consequence of a suicide attempt made in 2022. Her behavioral pattern exhibits signs of a borderline personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Notably, there’s an echo of this Spanish predicament in the Calgary case, where a father successfully challenged a court-approved euthanasia for his 27-year-old autistic daughter.
