Nancy Mace, a South Carolina Congresswoman, reported having been assaulted on Capitol grounds due to her stance on transgender issues in women’s spaces. Mace, who has been lobbying to prevent trans-identifying men from accessing women’s bathrooms on federal property, confirmed that the attacker had been arrested by Capitol police.

I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him.

All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe.

Your threats will not stop my fight for women!#HoldTheLine

— Rep. Nancy Mace (@RepNancyMace) December 11, 2024

According to Mace, threats and violence will not deter her from advocating for women’s safety. In November, she publicized her commitment to “fight like hell” for the protection of women and girls amid growing instances of bullying and threats against her life.

Capitol Police identified the attacker as 33-year-old James McIntyre from Illinois and reportedly charged him with assaulting a government official. The police were alerted to the incident by the Congresswoman’s office and were able to apprehend McIntyre swiftly. The assault took place in the Rayburn House Office Building, which was open to the public at the time.
