In a preface for a new book titled “Il miracolo della vita” (The Miracle of Life), Pope Francis has extolled “the wonder and joy” of birth and the inherent right of every unborn life to exist. This book, which delves into the miracle of life from a scientific and pro-life perspective, is the collaborative effort of authors Arnoldo Mosca Mondadori, Luca Crippa, and Gabriele Semprebon. Pope Francis praised their successful incorporation of science in illustrating the majesty of unborn life.
Furthermore, Pope Francis applauded the authors’ dedication to tackling the sensitive issue of abortion through the “voice of the embryo” and their portrayal of the unborn child’s right to life. This echo reverberates throughout the millennia of evolution, making it a subject worth focusing on in the book.
The Pope emphasized the miracle of birth and once again called upon society to reject abortion as a solution. He urged society to offer help to both the unborn child and the mother, emphasizing that all human beings, particularly the most vulnerable, deserve a society that prioritizes their dignity and defends it.
In his appeal, Pope Francis condemned the “throwaway culture” that disregards the sanctity of life at its varying stages – from the vulnerability of an unborn child to the solitude of the elderly, and the deplorable poverty that deprives many of life’s basic necessities.
A representative from the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) voiced agreement with Pope Francis, underscoring that abortion propagates a defeatist ethic that overlooks the gift of life. The spokesperson reiterated the importance of recognizing our true identity, as both science and philosophy underscore the marvel and purpose of life, aligning with Pope Francis’ sentiments.
