Polish abortion activist publicly boasts about arranging illegal abortion

Poland’s Ordo Iuris Institute is preparing a criminal complaint after an activist from the pro-abortion group Aborcja bez Granic (Abortion Without Borders) publicly boasted on social media about helping a couple abort one of their unborn twins because the pregnancy produced two children instead of the one they had planned.

In a video posted online, the activist described how her organization arranged a so-called “selective-reduction abortion” — the targeted killing of one unborn child in a multiple pregnancy — on demand, because the couple wanted only one child. The activist described the organization’s illegal activity as filling “a gap in the healthcare system.”

Under Article 152 of Poland’s Criminal Code, aiding in an abortion is punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment. The law does not provide an exception for selective-reduction abortions on demand. Ordo Iuris attorney Katarzyna Gęsiak noted that law enforcement has displayed “complete inaction” in the face of repeated and documented crimes by abortion activists — and that this inaction has emboldened the groups to escalate, now publicly celebrating what they previously did quietly.

Gęsiak warned that unchecked illegal activity is steadily accustoming Polish society to accepting abortion on demand in practice, even as it remains prohibited by law — moving the country toward a “point of no return.” She called on prosecutors to act and on the Tusk government to repeal Health Minister Leszczyna’s unlawful guidelines, which have penalized hospitals for refusing to perform abortions.
