A public school teacher in New Hampshire has been dismissed for covertly taking a student to get an abortion during school hours, as per an investigation by the state’s Department of Education. Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut alluded to the incidents in an op-ed written in April, highlighting complaints about misconduct, alleged leftist political agendas, instances of teachers consuming alcohol while on duty, counselors advocating gender transition for students without involving parents, and the promotion of Black Lives Matter and LGBT content.

After the Boston Globe criticized Edelblut for making an unsubstantiated claim about abortion, Edelblut unveiled an investigative report revealing the dismissal of the teacher. In the report, it emerges that the teacher falsely claimed to be sick and, while supposedly off sick, escorted a student for a medical appointment. The teacher reportedly admitted to lying about their health status and accompanying the student to an abortion facility, asserting that they wanted to ensure the facility was safe.

While the teacher was subsequently placed on administrative leave, the incident sparked shock and outrage among local Republican lawmakers, who voiced dismay that parents were not kept in the loop. Keeping such secrets from parents is not beneficial public policy and could teach children that deception is acceptable. Meanwhile, New Hampshire law requires parental notification 48 hours before a minor seeks an abortion except in specific situations where a judge intervenes. It currently remains unclear whether the student in question was underage.
