Minnesota Democratic state Rep. Leigh Finke, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, told a legislative hearing that pornography websites can serve as “educational” content for “queer” children.
Finke made the remarks during testimony against House File 1434, a bill requiring age verification on adult websites to protect minors from harmful material. Finke argued that state attorneys general are “jubilant” about using such laws to block young people from accessing “content that could be educational if they are queer.”
She claimed schools fail to provide adequate sex education for LGBT youth and suggested pornography fills that gap. “And you’re a principal, you have LGBT students in your school, and we also know that they’re not receiving sex education for queer kids,” Finke said. “Prurient interest could be for many people the very existence of transgender kids.”
The statement drew sharp condemnation from child protection advocates who argue that exposing minors to pornography is never educational and poses serious risks to developing minds. Finke has a long record of advancing radical gender policies, including authoring Minnesota’s 2023 “trans refuge” law that shields child sex-change procedures from parental consent requirements.
The bill under discussion, HF 1434, aims to enforce basic safeguards so children cannot freely access explicit adult content online. Opponents like Finke aim to undermine protections for children and to advance a radical agenda that corrupts the most innocent in society.
