Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker and traditionalist Catholic, Harrison Butker, has expressed strong objections to a recent funeral service for atheist transgender activist, Cecilia Gentili, that took place at the renowned St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Gentili, a man who lived as a woman, was an activist whose views conflicted with Catholic doctrines. The funeral service reportedly included a depiction of Gentili with a halo, and the words “transvestite”, “whore”, “blessed”, and “mother” in Spanish, leading to considerable controversy.
Talking to the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), Butker criticized the event, describing it as an “abomination” and expressing his belief that it should have been stopped. He also revealed that he had conveyed his concern to New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan and insisted that he would not appear on Dolan’s show again until the matter has been addressed.
Butker, well-known for his public profession of faith, emphasized the need for robust leadership in the Catholic community. St. Patrick’s Cathedral later held a “Mass of Reparation” in response to the controversial funeral service.
