Indian woman pressured into 14 abortions, commits suicide

Pro-life organizations in various countries have been complaining for years that many women who decide to have an abortion are actually coerced into it by their partners.

An Indian woman took her own life after being pressured by her partner to have a total of 14 abortions over an eight-year period.

In her suicide note, the Delhi woman (33) stated that she had begun the relationship with the prospect of marriage. However, her partner refused to marry her, which left her no choice but to commit suicide. She further accused her partner of coercing her into 14 abortions during their eight-year relationship. An Indian police officer stated that the partner was under investigation in the case:

“We have opened a case under sections 306 (inciting suicide), 376 (rape), and 313 (inducing miscarriage without the woman’s consent) of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigation has begun.”

The woman leaves behind two daughters, ages 12 and 14.
