In San Francisco, people who identify with their biological sex (i.e., the overwhelming majority of people) are not eligible for government support

Since the 1960’s, San Francisco has been at the forefront of left-wing causes in the United States. And the city’s new income support program—open only to transgender people—is further proof of this.

Under the new Guaranteed Income for Transgender People (or “GIFT”) program, over fifty San Francisco men who believe they are women and women who believe they are men meeting financial thresholds will be able to receive $1,200 a month for 18 months, in addition to wraparound services. As the city’s web site states:

“This pilot program is the first guaranteed income initiative to focus solely on trans people, and will accept applications from November 15 through December 15, 2022. The GIFT Program will provide 55 eligible trans individuals with temporary income and a range of wrap-around direct services such as gender affirming medical and mental health care, case management and specialty care services, as well as financial coaching.”

Such a program exclusively for the transgender community is needed because, of course, of all the discrimination against it. As one of the designer’s and implementors of the program declared:

“We hope that our guaranteed income program will be the beginning of a reparative process to change the inequities experienced by our [trans] communities, help them survive in a world that is constantly debating their right to exist, and empower them to engage in healthcare services in a meaningful and life-changing way.”

The same person cites the unproven allegation that trans people must be affirmed in their beliefs that go against biological reality because “it is a life-or-death situation.” However, the evidence does not support the claim that gender affirming care improves the mental health of people suffering from gender dysphoria; indeed, it seems to show the contrary. But wholeheartedly supporting the LGBT agenda, rather than the truth, is all that counts for radicals running San Francisco.

What is especially ironic about the program is that it violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other legislation according to the beliefs of transgender activists themselves. These activists claim that the ban on discrimination based upon “sex” in these laws includes bans based upon “gender identity”—thus San Francisco cannot create a program like GIFT that openly discriminates based on “gender identity.” But logic has never stopped radicals from implementing their ideas….

So there you have it. San Francisco is once again engaged in social engineering by creating an income-support program created exclusively to help men who identify as women and women who identify as men. The facts that gender-affirming care does not benefit people suffering from gender dysphoria and that the program violates our country’s civil rights laws do not seem to bother the City of San Francisco. Let’s hope that when this harmful and discriminatory program is challenged in the courts sane judges relying on truth and logic will strike it down.
