A 19-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras, identified as Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, has been arrested in Louisiana for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl and repeatedly stabbing a man during a robbery. Angel had been on the run when he was apprehended this week for the robbery.
Kenner Police Department claimed in a Facebook post that the enforcement of law pertaining to illegal immigrants often posed challenges, particularly due to the lack of documented identifiers. Kenner Police Department Chief Keith Conley lamented the difficulties faced by law enforcement and highlighted the straining of local resources due to issues pertaining to illegal immigrants.
Castellanos-Orellana has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery, first-degree rape and aggravated assault, and a federal ICE detainer was also issued against him. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has expressed his sympathy for the victims of the crime and called for stronger border controls.
This incident adds to the growing debate about immigration policies amid an increasing number of illegal immigrants crossing the southwest US border under President Biden’s administration. Nearly 7.3 million migrants have illegally crossed the border, a figure larger than the population of 36 individual states, according to a Fox News analysis.
