Former US President Donald Trump has reportedly shown support towards the implementation of a federal law banning late-term abortions after 16 weeks, with exceptions in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is at risk. The move comes in contrast to current President Joe Biden’s stance, who is an advocate of unrestricted abortions at any time during pregnancy, even if financed by taxpayers.
Trump’s position was shared in a New York Times report, which revealed his conversations with advisors and allies in which he expressed his preference for an even, round number like 16 weeks. Trump views this ban as a means for satisfying both social conservatives who seek more stringent abortion restrictions, and Republicans and Independent voters who support modest limitations on the procedure.
The former president’s stance has been lauded by pro-life group, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, which expressed appreciation for his support of restrictions on abortions at 16 weeks. The group’s president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, highlighted the compassionate nature of this position, pointing out the majority of Americans are in favor of it.
