Just 48 hours have passed since an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump took place at a political rally in Pennsylvania. Identified by the FBI, the suspected shooter was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was fatally shot by Secret Service agents immediately following the incident.

During Trump’s speech on President Biden’s immigration policy, the disturbance occurred. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots, after which Trump was seen clasping his ear. Instantaneously, Secret Service agents swarmed the ex-President. Despite the shock and confusion, Trump signaled to the crowd before being swiftly escorted offstage.

Fortunately, Trump left the incident and was confirmed to be stable. However, three spectators were hit, resulting in one casualty. Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old former firefighter, died while protecting his family. The two injured victims, 57-year-old David Dutch and 74-year-old, James Copenhaver, are now in stable condition.

Speculations arose as authorities found Crooks, a registered Republican, had recently made a donation to the Progressive Turnout Project, a political action committee endorsing Democratic candidates. The sudden attack left authorities scrambling for clues relating to the motive behind the shooting. Meanwhile, an explosive device and bomb-making materials discovered at Crooks’ residence are undergoing examination by the FBI.

Following the attempt on his predecessor’s life, President Biden has ordered the Secret Service to take all necessary measures to ensure Trump’s safety. Authorities have announced no changes will be made to the security plans for the upcoming Republican National Convention.
