Don’t be a Bass; hold your ground!

The next time you speak the truth and are attacked for doing so, hold your ground...

In order to have a chance at scoring victories in the culture wars, conservatives and other people of good will have to understand a few basic rules. First, if you speak the truth, the left will come after you. Period. Indeed, fail to agree 100% with any part of the woke agenda, and the left will mercilessly attack you. Thus, if you defend traditional morality, religion, or common sense, expect to be targeted. Why? Because the left knows that its ideology is a house of cards that will fall if any amount of truth is allowed to enter the public square. Read Czech dissident Vaclav Havel’s essay “Power of the Powerless” for a better understanding of this.

Second, you must not apologize for speaking the truth under any circumstances. Why? Several reasons. First, because the truth needs to be shouted from the rooftops and not apologized for. Second, because apologizing will not stop the leftist attacks on you; indeed, leftists will smell blood in the water and come after you even harder. So hold your ground at all costs and let the chips fall where they may. As Rod Dreher tells us in his book Live not by Lies, we must be willing to suffer for the sake of the truth or Western Civilization will come to an end.

The recent case of Anthony Bass clearly shows these two rules in play and what not to do. Bass, a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, recently shared on his Instagram account a video supporting the boycotts of Target and Bud Light for their shameless support of the radical LGBT agenda. Indeed, Target, among other things, is marketing LGBT clothing to infants and toddlers and selling clothing encouraging girls to identify as boys and boys as girls, and Bud Light is using a man who thinks he is a woman as a female product ambassador. Both boycotts have been extremely successful with both companies losing billions of dollars in stock price value.

As soon as Bass posted the video which told the truth about Target and Bud Light, he was immediately attacked by the leftist mob. Rather than defending his action, however, Bass played right into the hands of the leftists by issuing an obsequious apology in the hopes of keeping his job with the Blue Jays. In his apology Bass put his tail between his legs and stated:

“I recognize yesterday I made a post that was hurtful to the pride community, which includes friends of mine and close family members of mine. And I’m truly sorry for that. I just spoke with my teammates to share with them my actions yesterday. I apologized with them. And as of right now, I’m using the Blue Jays’ resources to better educate myself to make better decisions moving forward. The ballpark is for everybody. We include all fans at the ballpark. We want to welcome everybody.”

Did Bass’s weak-kneed apology stop the leftist attacks against him? No way. The radical LGBT mob smelled blood in the water and came after Bass even harder until the Blue Jays ended up firing him. So all Bass’s apology ended up doing was making himself look spineless and making the truth look undefendable—and it still did not save his job. It would have been better if Bass had boldly defended his action and then accepted whatever “punishment” the left wanted dished out to him for daring to speak the truth.

So learn from this example. The next time you speak the truth and are attacked for doing so, hold your ground and don’t be a Bass. Western Civilization is depending on you.
