In Vienna in mid-October, around 2,000 people took to the streets at the March for Life in support of the protection of life from conception to natural death.
The October 15 march program began at 1 p.m. with a rally at Karlsplatz, then from 2 p.m. the march began moving in pouring rain.
There were isolated counter-protests, including some that used pyrotechnic devices. A sit-in was broken up by the police, resulting in fistcuffs. According to media reports, there were 30 arrests.
Valerie Trachta, one of the organizers of the march, expressed her joy to the Catholic media portal kath.net about the success of this year’s march:
“It was great to see so many people from all walks of life at the march, despite the weather. Together we were able to bring our message to the streets of Vienna: Love them both–the mother and the child. Both have the right to be taken seriously, to be supported and loved. Far too often, our society fails to live up to this responsibility. That is why we were on the streets for the right to life of every human being. Next year on October 14, 2023, we hope for even more participants!”
