President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are set to team up with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in Washington on Friday for an event hosted by three of the country’s leading pro-abortion organizations: Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and EMILY’s List.
According to reports, the White House’s week-long focus on promoting abortion rights will reach a peak when Harris delivers a significant speech in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday. This address is viewed by Biden’s aides as a strategy to appeal to voters in light of the upcoming 2024 election, by emphasizing on unrestricted abortion access.
An anonymous White House official informed the Hill that Harris’s speech in Charlotte will aim to highlight the stark contrast between the Biden administration’s pro-abortion stance and the Republicans’ supposed “extreme legislation.” The vice president is also expected to confirm the White House’s endorsement of a federal law that would institutionalize abortion rights. As part of the week’s agenda, Harris will participate in a televised roundtable discussion with MSNBC’s Joy Reid to further elaborate on the administration’s pro-abortion position.
The same White House official told NBC News that Harris’s spouse, Doug Emhoff, will reach out to physicians to express his gratitude for their services and to understand how state-enforced abortion bans have influenced their practices. Emhoff will also be present during Harris’s speech in North Carolina.
According to the report, these proceedings underscore the Democrats’ intention to keep the abortion issue at the forefront as we approach the 2024 elections.
