Costco will not sell abortion pill at its stores

Pro-life advocates have scored an important victory after months of pressure. Costco, one of America’s largest warehouse retailers, confirmed that it will not sell the abortion pill, mifepristone, in any of its more than 500 U.S. pharmacies. This announcement reassures families that they can shop at Costco without worrying about indirectly supporting the abortion industry, and it highlights the growing influence of the pro-life movement on corporate policy.

Although Costco explained that its decision was based on a lack of customer demand, the timing is hard to ignore. The company noted that most women obtain the pill directly from doctors rather than retail pharmacies. Nevertheless, groups such as Alliance Defending Freedom and Inspire Investing had been applying pressure, urging Costco to reject complicity in the abortion trade.

Religious and pro-life organizations immediately celebrated the announcement as a landmark success. Alliance Defending Freedom described the decision as “a very significant victory” and argued that it shows corporations can resist activist pressure from the abortion lobby. Pro-family investors likewise praised Costco for choosing a course that reflects family-centered values, setting an example for other companies caught in similar cultural battles.

Attention has now turned to the nation’s other major pharmacy chains. CVS, Walgreens, and even online retailers like Amazon are under growing scrutiny for their willingness to dispense abortion pills. While CVS and Walgreens still distribute the drug in states where abortion remains legal, pro-life groups are demanding that these corporations follow Costco’s lead and put human dignity above profit. Pressure campaigns are intensifying, and Costco’s stance is adding fuel to that momentum.

In the end, Costco’s refusal to sell mifepristone is more than just a business decision—it is a cultural and moral statement. This decision should inspire other retailers to act with courage, resist the abortion lobby, and stand firmly on the side of life.
