The Biden-Harris administration reportedly plans to allocate over a million dollars for LGBT initiatives in Latin America, bypassing Congressional approval. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which distributes billions of dollars annually for assistance to countries worldwide, including funding for social causes abroad, disclosed its intention to spend $1.5 million on LGBT causes in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In spite of a Congressional committee halting the funding proposal, USAID is manifestedly proceeding with the initiative. The proposed budget, amongst other things, includes funding for possible legal action against nations “discriminating” against LGBT individuals. Additionally, funding is included for coordinating LGBT organizations with other minority organizations, alongside creating materials designed to discourage violence against LGBT people in the regions.
It remains unclear how much of the $1.5 million, part of a more extensive $6.5 million package intended for LGBT initiatives worldwide, has been spent so far. Despite the temporary halt on this package, USAID is continuing with the funding plan. The organization’s actions, using its extensive budget to promote certain causes, including LGBT initiatives across the globe, are a prime example of the Biden-Harris administration pushing the LGBT agenda across the globe.
