The Biden administration is facing backlash for prohibiting children from submitting Easter eggs with religious designs in an art competition associated with the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll. The event’s theme is “Celebrating National Guard Families,” but the guidelines state that submissions should not include any religious symbols or overtly religious themes. The move has drawn criticism as it stifles the expression of religious beliefs during a Christian holiday celebrated globally.

The “Call for Youth Art” flyer requested that participants create a depiction of their lives – such as favorite activities, home scenery, or a day-in-the-life – on an egg template. Some social media users responded to the ban highlighting that it censors a significant part of people’s lives. Although the White House plans to bring back its “EGGucation” theme for the Easter Egg Roll, questions have been raised about the Biden administration’s recognition of the religious aspects of Easter.
