LGBT+ and sexuality
- United States of America. There are already 15 states in the USA that will support Emilee Carpenter, a Christian photographer from New York who refuses to lend her professionalism for LGBT+ “marriage” ceremonies.
- The Center for Bioethics and Culture, which defends the culture of life, promotes “Trans Mission,” a new initiative that by way of filmed contributions, interviews and research highlights the transgender industry and the businesses that are flourishing around the fuzzy concept of “gender identity” and “transition” for minors.
- United Kingdom. An international network of researchers and academics is being set up to study how much and when gender difference positively or negatively affects employment, the justice system and sport.
- Scotland. Lisa Keogh, a law student investigated and sanctioned by Abertay University in Dundee for stating that women have vaginas and that men are physically stronger, has been acquitted of misconduct charges.
- Cuba. The Catholic episcopate publicly denounces the decision of the competent ministry to promote gender ideology in schools.
Family
- United States of America. According to a study conducted by the Barna Group, Christians are happier with their marriages than non-Christians, men are more satisfied with their unions than women, and couples from the so-called “Generation X” reveal difficulties instead.
- Less poverty, less prison and more high schools and universities: this, in short, is the conclusion reached by a study of the Institute for Family Studies in New York on the positive and negative effects produced on children by the family stability of both white and black couples. Both white and black children are much more likely to avoid poverty and prison, and to graduate from college, if they grow up in stable families with both parents.
- The parent revolt against teachers and schools is spreading. The most recent episode in this tug-of-war is in the town of Randolph, New Jersey. Last week, one school had decided to remove the holidays of Christmas, Thanksgiving, Columbus Day and so on from the calendar, but was forced to backtrack.
Life
- United Kingdom. Two-year-old Alta Fixsler is medically kept alive from birth because she has a serious medical condition. Specialists at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital where Alta is staying, are calling for her life support to be taken away as she has “no prospect of recovery”. On May 28, the High Court in London sided with the doctors. Having appealed to the Court of Appeal, the father and mother now await the ruling. They are asking to continue treating the child or, at least, to be allowed to take her for treatment in Israel, the parents’ country of origin.
- Scotland. The Assisted Suicide Bill is facing strong opposition from many MPs with disabilities and several political parties. Confidence is growing that the opposition can succeed.
