A Romanian court has definitively sentenced Kristof Lajos, known as the “genius coach,” to 7 years and 10 months in prison for the rape of a minor. The ruling, delivered on February 7, 2026, reduces his initial sentence from 13 years and 3 months but underscores the gravity of exploiting vulnerable youth under the guise of mentorship. Lajos, a homosexual 45-year-old former children’s rights activist and coach, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy.
Prosecutors highlighted his position of trust, which exemplifies the dangers of unchecked access to minors in activist and educational roles. The case drew widespread condemnation, with social media users like academic Gad Saad labeling the sentence “too lenient” given the crime’s severity. The verdict aligns with broader efforts to safeguard children from predators, emphasizing traditional values of family and innocence.
Romanian authorities praised the outcome as a deterrent, reinforcing laws that prioritize victim protection over leniency for offenders. Lajos’s defense appealed the original sentence, citing procedural issues, but the high court upheld the conviction while adjusting the term. Victims’ rights groups welcomed the decision, calling for stricter background checks in youth programs to prevent similar abuses.
