The Unidos por la Vida (United for Life) platform in Colombia is organizing a national march on October 19 to protest a memorandum from the Colombian Health Superintendency that supports sex changes for children. The rally, dubbed “Don’t Mess with Children,” is a response to External Memorandum 115, which outlines steps for supporting transgender people within the country. The memo included a section dedicated to trans children and adolescents who are undergoing development.

The memorandum infringes on the rights of parents and imposes a dangerous ideology on children. The protest organizers are calling for the repeal of the memorandum and for the resignation of the superintendent of health, Luis Carlos Leal, who was appointed by President Gustavo Petro. Leal faces criticism for promoting hormone therapy and sex change operations in line with his own views as a homosexual activist.

The demonstration, which will take place in the capital city of Bogotá, is set to begin at the National Park and end at the Plaza de Bolívar in the city’s downtown area. Critics of the Health Superintendency’s move argue that it prioritizes ideology over the well-being of children and the rights of their parents.
